What’s On In Belgravia this Spring

With its beautiful parks, grand squares and pedestrianised shopping streets, there’s nowhere lovelier in the springtime than Belgravia. Taking in the neighbourhoods of Victoria, Pimlico and Chelsea, it’s an affluent area with well-heeled residents, full of fascinating history, architecture  and a whole range of things to do for both adults and children alike. From amazing pubs to live music, food markets and wellness retreats, it’s got everything you could possibly want for a weekend in London this springtime.

Stay at The Orange

Recently reopened, our historic Belgravia pub and boutique hotel, The Orange, is the perfect hub for locals and tourists alike. Chef Ben Tish has completely overhauled the menu, starting it from scratch (sorry, chicken Milanese fans), keeping only the freshly baked focaccia intact. Instead, he’s added a breakfast offering including flatbreads (the stracciatella and blood orange marmalade is a highlight), even more pizzas to make the most of the wood-fired pizza oven and a blood orange and Campari sorbet served in an orange shell (chef’s kiss). While the ground-floor bar is great for when the weather isn’t cooperating (you can pretend you’re in Italy via one of the freshly-sliced charcuterie boards), the rooftop is where it’s at for when the sun is shining – spring evening rooftop drinks here are second to none, especially when fuelled with snacks like stuffed olives and smoked almonds. The great news for out-of-towners is that there are also eight beautifully decorated and spacious boutique bedrooms to stay in, making it the perfect base for a city break to London, too.

Dine at The Thomas Cubitt or The Alfred Tennyson

If you’re in the neighbourhood and looking for a place to eat, drink and unwind, then we do have two more pubs in Belgravia: The Thomas Cubitt and The Alfred Tennyson. Ideal if you’re looking for some elevated pub grub, there’s battered haddock, chips and mushy peas and our signature burger on both menus, plus a really stellar beef and Guinness pie at The Alfred Tennyson. For something less obvious, we love the oysters, served at both pubs, or the choices of steak (bavette, ribeye and flat iron) at The Thomas Cubitt. With a menu of small and large plates, it’s food that’s designed for sharing – perfect for when you just can’t make your mind up because everything sounds so good…

See Belgravia in Bloom

Belgravia in Bloom celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023, confirming just how popular it has become. The annual festival sees shops, hair salons, restaurants and bars all competing against each other to be crowned the best in show, putting on incredible floral displays in their windows, using not just flowers but props as well. This year’s edition, which runs from 20th-27th May, has the theme ‘Floral Fun and Games’, so we’re expecting lots of playful takes. Completely free and a great excuse to get some fabulous photographs, it’s always interesting to see what people come up with.

Try biscuit decorating at Biscuiteers

Kill two birds with one stone by booking one of Biscuiteers’ ‘School of Icing’ workshops, perfect for keeping little ones busy – and feeding them! You’ll learn the basics such as how to hold a piping bag plus the finishing touches to really finesse your confectionary too. Bookable for up to 12 children, they’re ideal for birthday parties – or for a group of mums banding together to keep kids entertained during the Easter or half-term holidays.

See a show at Cadogan Hall

One of London’s most beautiful theatres, Cadogan Hall puts on a wide variety of shows, from live music spanning folk, jazz, rock and pop, to Q&As with authors, comedy shows and more. This spring, there’s a roll-call of exciting gigs to book: true crime fans will love ‘The Makings of a Murderer’, hosted by police detective David Swindle, who caught the serial killer Peter Tobin (22nd April); Michael Palin fans will enjoy hearing him share stories of his travels as well as his Monty Python days during ‘An Evening with Michael Palin’ (25th April), while there are also performances from the ‘house band’, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Fleetwood Mac-endorsed tribute group Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, and soul legend Bettye LaVette.

Hit the shops on Pavilion Road, Elizabeth Street and Motcomb Street

Escape the Knightsbridge tourist trail and instead head to Pavilion Road, Elizabeth Street and Motcomb Street to experience some of London’s finest independent shops. Pavilion Road is pedestrianised with our favourite stores including PJ brand Olivia von Halle, wine shop Mother Vine and London Cheesemongers (needs no introduction). Then there’s Elizabeth Street, with fashion-forward brands Beulah and Me+Em, pooch-haven Mungo and Maud, tot-haven Pepa & Co, and beautiful interiors store Summerill and Bishop – don’t forget to take a picture outside cupcake shop Peggy Porschen on the corner too. Finally, there’s Motcomb Street, another pedestrianised street with five-storey Nordic-Japanese lifestyle hub Pantechnicon, lingerie brand Eres and florist Neill Strain Floral Couture.

Focus on your wellbeing at Eccleston Yards

A collection of former warehouses, Eccleston Yards is a buzzy little village of shops, restaurants and wellness spaces. Get a sweat on at Barry’s Bootcamp, Psycle or Hotpod Yoga, or find your flow with meditation at Re:Mind, and then refocus with a beautifying session at salon SMUK, or take cooling down very literally at LondonCryo. With a calendar of pop-up events in the outdoor courtyard space, such as aerobics, plus live music and street art, it’s no wonder their striped deck chairs are always occupied.
